As part of a science project, you will synthesize 1D vdW bilayers and heterostructures with a defined Moiré pattern (controlled by chirality selection) of the constituent walls. To do this, use structurally well-defined single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) to anneal the growth of inner and outer walls of carbon or boron nitride. In this way, you will gain new insights into the role of the inner/outer wall in defining the atomic structure of its counterpart and a study of controllable moiré patterns in 1D nanostructures will be possible. Furthermore, you will investigate optical and electronic coupling between structurally defined walls by measuring spectral shifts relative to single-walled species in photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy, and by performing electronic measurements at low temperature to investigate new phenomena such as superconductivity.
Alongside your position as researcher, there is the opportunity to obtain a PhD degree.
You have a university degree (Diplom (Uni) / Master) in physical chemistry, organic chemistry or materials science and are already experienced with carbon nanotubes as well as characterization by atomic force microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Knowledge and experience with tube furnaces and high temperature syntheses is desirable.
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
