Job description
We are looking for a personality in the early stages of their career who has expertise in sustainable solar or thermal energy technologies. Your research will focus on the technological development of hybrid solar thermal energy technologies and represent this topic in research, teaching, and innovation.
Applicants should have proven expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Photovoltaic-thermal hybrid technologies or systems
- Solar thermal energy technologies or systems
- Other thermal energy technologies using renewable energies
We offer a wide range of cooperation opportunities at KIT, including ITES, as well as the KIT Department ETIT and the KIT Department of Mechanical Engineering (MACH), in the Helmholtz Research Field Energy, and at EnergyLab.
The tenure-track professorship (W1) Hybrid Solar Technologies will be affiliated with the KIT Department of ETIT. In addition to basic and application-oriented research, you will be involved in industrial projects and technology transfer. You will execute large-scale research tasks with a teaching obligation of 6 hours per week per semester, if you have been evaluated positively. In other cases, your teaching obligation will be 4 hours per week per semester.
As part of the tenure-track professorship, you will participate in German and English-language teaching in the field of the tenure-track professorship and in undergraduate teaching offered by the two KIT Departments ETIT and MACH. One of the languages can also be acquired during the qualification phase.

Personal qualification
We are looking for a candidate with an internationally recognized scientific qualification and reputation, excellent teaching skills, and leadership competence.
Experience in acquiring third-party funding and in cooperating with industry, as well as having successfully acquired an externally evaluated junior research group is an advantage.
You combine a cooperative working style with strong communication skills. In addition to your willingness to take on leadership tasks and to get involved in academic self-administration, you actively shape research at KIT and your own professional development.
Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. 2 of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) as well as to the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
Contract duration
Employment is limited to six years as a civil servant for a fixed term or as a salaried employee. Before the expiry of the third year of work, an interim evaluation will take place. The evaluation process and general evaluation criteria are outlined in the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
The following subject-specific criteria will be of particular importance for the interim and final evaluations: Independence and originality of research, scientific visibility, publication record in renowned journals, acquisition of third-party funding, transfer of research results into application, excellent teaching evaluations, successful supervision of graduation theses (B.Sc./M.Sc.) and doctoral researchers, and active participation in the work of academic bodies.
In case of a positive final evaluation, you will be offered a full university professorship (W3).
