At the Institute for Astroparticle Physics (IAP) at KIT, a PhD position (m/f/d) in the field of (astro-)particle physics is available. Our research group has many years of experience in the search for rare events and is a member of the international XENON and XLZD collaborations dedicated to the search for dark matter. The goal of the advertised position is to advance technological aspects related to liquid xenon time projection chambers in preparation for the construction of the XLZD Observatory.

Job description

  • design, construction, and testing of a prototype high-voltage feedthrough for use in liquid xenon
  • develop suitable calibration techniques, conduct Monte Carlo simulations
  • perform statistical analyses to evaluate the sensitivity of future liquid xenon detectors, such as XLZD, with regard to key questions in astroparticle physics
  • contribute to teaching activities of the research group
  • assist in supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s theses
  • presenting your results at scientific conferences
  • preparing publications.

Personal qualification

  • you hold a Master’s degree in Physics
  • you enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team and have a passion for experimental research
  • working within international collaborations requires excellent intercultural and organizational skills
  • strong communication skills and a constructive work attitude are expected.

Salary

Salary category 13 TV-L, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
