Research Associate (f/m/d) in the science department of electron microscopy
Institute of Nanotechnology (INT)
You work in the department 'Advanced Electron Microscopy in Materials Research' at the Institute of Nanotechnology of the KIT Karlsruhe in the field of high-end structural analysis. In close cooperation with various research groups in the field of chemistry, materials science and physics, you will sup-port battery related research using in-situ and ex-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron (SEM) / focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy.
As part of the Excellence Cluster POLiS 'Energy Storage Beyond Lithium' you will be focus on two main projects:
- correlative characterization of corrosion processes in Aluminum electrodes
- structure of hard carbons and their relation to sodium storage capabilities
Two state-of-the-art aber-ration corrected TEMs for atomic resolution imaging and spectroscopy, 4D-STEM, electron tomo-graphy and in-situ TEM studies as well as three FIB systems for SEM, EBSD and EDX analysis at RT and under cryo conditions are available as well as a NanoCT. In addition to your own research, you will supervise a doctoral student and work with other postdocs in the department to jointly implement and improve advanced microscopic methods.
You have a university degree (Diplom (Uni) / Master) with PhD in chemistry, physics or materials sciences. At least 3 years of practical experience in the field of analytical transmission electron microscopy and mastery of a wide range of methods in the field of electron microscopy (TEM, STEM, EELS, EDX, in-situ TEM and FIB) and their use for characterizing battery materials are required. Very good English skills, both written and spoken, round out your profile.
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
