IMT 16-2022 Master Thesis: Development Of Microfluidic Platform For NMR Hyperpolarization

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a powerful tool for chemical structure determination and reaction monitoring but the low sensitivity limits its use. The hyperpolarization of nuclear spin allows enhancing the MR signal by several orders of magnitude and extends the application fields of NMR. Recently, SABRE (Signal Amplification By Reversible Exchange) has been demonstrated as a promising hyperpolarization method, in which the target molecule can be continuously hyperpolarized without any chemical modification.

In this master thesis, you will develop a microfluidic platform integrated with a porous membrane for SABRE experiment. You will use the instruments and facilities that exist at Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT) and get the experience of microfluidic design and microfabrication techniques. You will have the opportunity to measure SABRE signal at 11.7 T NMR spectroscopy.

Persönliche Qualifikation

  • Field of study: Mechanical engineering, mechatronics, microsystem or similar
  • Good academic record;
  • Knowledge of microsystems/microfabrication is encouraged;
  • Fluent English, good communication and presentation skills;
  • Enthusiasm to work in a multidisciplinary environment;
