Research associate (f/m/d) in Digital Design and Fabrication

Organizational unit

Institute for Building Design and Technology (IEB)

Job description

The professorship for Digital Design and Fabrication at the Institute of Design and Building Technology (IEB) of KIT explores computational design and digital fabrication processes which enable novel concepts for circular economy in construction. Innovative material and construction systems are prototypically developed on a 1:1 scale at the interface of research and teaching. Testing novel fabrication and design methods in application-oriented demonstrator projects enables us to develop integral digital processes considering all aspects of construction, including architectural design, component production, assembly, and reconfiguration as well as disassembly and recycling.

Starting date

15th of February 2022

Personal qualification

You have a university degree in architecture and practical experience in the field of computational design. You have didactic skills and interest in teaching architectural geometry and digital design methods at a university level. As an architect, you can develop digital construction processes considering reciprocities between architectural design and construction technology. You can actively support prototypical developments of new material and construction systems on a 1:1 scale. In addition to your practical skills, you can document and reflect on research results in the context of scientific publications and assist in the application for third-party funded research projects. You have the communication and organizational skills to apply these qualifications in research and teaching, in an international and interdisciplinary environment and in a team-oriented manner. The position focuses on bachelor level teaching, with a focus on architectural geometry and digital design, and offers the opportunity to contribute to research projects, exploring novel digital design and fabrication methods. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

The remuneration occurs on the basis of the wage agreement of the civil service in TV-L E13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
