Job description

The Grunwaldt group uses extensively synchrotron radiation and other spectroscopic tools for analyzing functional materials, in particular heterogeneous catalysts (www.itcp.kit.edu/grunwaldt). Within a new initiative ( DAPHNE4NFDI, details: www.daphne4nfdi.de/english) we will establish a reference database including infrastructure for storage and management of X-ray spectroscopic data (X-ray absorption and emission spectra).

The candidate will be responsible for setting up and expanding a XANES/EXAFS and XES reference database containing raw, calculated and processed data with an interface for analysis software, where both database and analysis software code will be developed by collaboration partners. The candidate will closely work together with the CAT-ACT Beamline at the KIT synchrotron source, the EXAFS and XES Beamlines in Hamburg, Grenoble and Berlin. Together with DAPHNE collaboration partners, the candidate will be responsible for developing data formats, outlining quality and acceptance criteria for research data and the corresponding metadata, as well as workflows for automated data processing and automated quality assessment. The candidate will further conduct his/her own research on functional materials in the Grunwaldt group and will take part in dissemination events such as teaching sessions, presentations at user meetings organized by large scale facilities.

Personal qualification

  • PhD as well as a very good university degree in Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, Material science, or related disciplines which rely on X-ray spectroscopy
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in the area of X-ray spectroscopy involving both experimental and theoretical work (data analysis, spectral calculations)
  • Experience with databases and programming languages (especially Python) is desirable
  • Fluent in English, German is an advantage
  • Experience with in situ / operando X-ray spectroscopy of functional materials is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated networking skills (e.g. active participation in collaboration projects, user support at large scale facilities) are advantageous

Salary

The remuneration occurs on the basis of the wage agreement of the civil service in TV-L E13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
