W3 - Professorship for Theory of Architecture

We currently seek applicants from the fields of architecture and art history who have proven outstanding competence in the area of architectural theory and who desire to integrate their knowledge and skills into the teaching and research at KIT´s Faculty for Architecture.
To the main responsibilities of the professorship belong the teaching of architectural theory to students in the Bachelor and Master programs in architecture and art history as well as research with a special focus on the contemporary architectural discourse. Thoroughly grounded in the knowledge of science, media, and technology and at home in the contexts of the cultural, social, and political realms, the new professor should be able to build bridges to other related programs at KIT.
The new professor is to represent the field of architectural theory in its full spectrum. Among the responsibilities of the chair is the direction of the saai – the Southwest German Archive for Architecture and Engineering. The archive, with its high public visibility, is one of the most important architectural collections in Germany and a place of innovative academic study of the work of architects and engineers. We expect the archive to continue to build upon its active engagement with other KIT-centers and its cooperation with national and international architectural archives.

We seek a person for the professorship with an international reputation and who is willing to integrate their outstanding and comprehensive knowledge of architectural theory in teaching and research. This person should be willing to work in close collaboration wizh professors from the chairs of architectural design as well as those from the intitutes for the history of art and architecture. We expect institutional experience with archives, including the development of academic and curatorial concepts for the appraisal, research, and presentation of archival materials. A doctoral or postdoctoral degree (or equivalent) are required at the time of application, as well as futher excellent academic accomplishments in the field of architectural theory.
Employment conditions as outlined in Article 47, LHG (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) in conjunction with § 20 KITG (KIT-Gesetz) in the version applicable until the legal validity of the 2. KIT-Weiterentwicklungsgesetz (2nd KIT Further Development Act) shall apply.
