Job description

Additive Manufacturing offers new degrees of freedom in terms of the shape of a part or component, and equally important in the way the microstructure of a sample can be manipulated during the printing process.

In this PhD project you are printing metallic components by means of Selective Laser Melting (SLM). You are adjusting the printing parameters such that different near surface microstructures are being generated. You are then evaluating these microstructures as far as their tribological performance is concerned and comparing them with conventionally fabricated samples. A detailed electron microscopy evaluation will also be part of your work. You will present your results at international conferences as well as publish in peer-reviewed journals.
