Institute for Photon Science and Synchrotron Radiation (IPS)
You are responsible for the operation, further development and implementation of the research at the KIT measuring station LAMINO-I on beamline ID19 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble. In this capacity your duties will include the development and application of procedures for coherent 2D, 3D and 4D phase-contrast imaging utilisng high-brilliance synchrotron radiation, especially in the fields of synchrotron laminography, microtomography and ultrafast radiography, together with the development of new scientific application fields for their successful use for in situ and operando investigations in materials research, especially for multi-scale investigation of damage mechanisms in plate-like materials under bi-axial mechanical loads.
Your duties include overseeing existing and potential cooperation-networks between KIT, the ESRF, the ILL in Grenoble, and other research institutes. In this context, you are responsible for the management and processing of relevant research projects, project acquisition, financial controlling, and personnel responsibility of the project teams, including on-site support for students and doctoral researchers.
The realization of the research projects takes place predominantly within long-term stays in Grenoble. Appropriate willingness to travel is thus expected.

You have a university degree (diploma (university) / master's) in physics, crystallography / mineralogy, or materials science, with a completed doctorate and a significant number of years of research experience with synchrotron radiation. You have experience in the development of novel X-ray imaging procedures and instrumentation together with a profound knowledge in the field of X-ray physics and materials research. Very good knowledge of English is expected.
The job requires a strong ability to work in a team, experience in leadership and coordination of project teams, and initiative, determination and resilience in multidisciplinary projects and in the international scientific environment of large-scale facilities.
Salary category 14, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
