PhD in the area of Photodynamic Macromolecular Morphologies at the Picometer Level (f/m/d)

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in organic and macromolecular synthetic chemistry to join our multi-national and transcontinental research team based in Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to undertake a PhD (3 years with the possibility of a 6 months extension based on performance) in the context of a cotutelle arrangement between KIT and QUT, working across two institutions. The research project fuses advanced polymer design and synthesis combined with advanced characterization tools to photochemically control macromolecular morphologies at the picometer level. The successful applicant will be based in the Soft Matter Synthesis Laboratory at KIT and Soft Matter Materials Laboratory at QUT (http://www.macroarc.org/). The KIT supervisor is Dr. Hatice Mutlu and the QUT supervisor Prof. Christopher Barner-Kowollik. The successful applicant is expected to spend approximately equal time at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
You should have a degree in organic/polymer chemistry, materials science or relevant disciplines. A prerequisite will be a strong interest and skillset in a organic and macromolecular synthetic chemistry, demonstrated by an M.Sc. thesis topic from this area. Significant hands-on experience with analytical characterization is mandatory. An excellent level of English is essential. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and competent self-starter with cross-cultural competency, with a strong interest in applied research and interdisciplinary scientific work.
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
