PhD position: development and application of the paraxial approximation
3D ultrasound tomography is an innovative method for breast cancer diagnosis developed at KIT. The advantages are the radiation-free measurement of three tissue properties for the diagnosis as well as their 3D representation. After first promising clinical studies, a large multi-center study in the People's Republic of China will now be carried out in cooperation with an industrial partner. For this purpose, within three years, several customized devices are built and the necessary firmware and control software are developed. At the same time CE marking, medical approval in China and industrial series production are being prepared.
As part of your thesis, you will work on the development and application of the paraxial approximation for USCT transmission tomography. Here, you will develop and automate the paraxial reconstruction algorithms, perform tests on patient data, and accelerate the reconstruction algorithms. You will also be involved in the implementation, reconstruction and evaluation of the multi-center study. You will carry out the reconstruction and evaluation of case data in this study and are involved in the statistical evaluation and publication of the study.
You have a university degree (Diplom (Uni) / Master) in the field of electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics and have very good mathematical and analytical skills. In addition, experience in the design and conduct of clinical trials, as well as research background in breast cancer diagnosis and medical imaging is desirable. Very good knowledge of English is obligatory. Knowledge of German and / or Mandarin completes your profile.
