The KIT National High Performance Computing Center (NHR@KIT) provides researchers from all over Germany with a state-of-the-art high-performance research infrastructure, and supports them with the Simulation & Data Laboratories, tailored consulting in the area of sustainable software development and performance engineering, and a dedicated Cx infrastructure.
You will handle the following tasks of the NHR@KIT:
- Further development and validation of a novel method of numerical fluid mechanics, applying a grid-free (particle) and grid-based (finite volume) method
You will implement the mixing part in OpenFOAM and validate the new method for different flow configurations
An important part for you will be the parallelization of the code and the development of fast efficient algorithms
You will train and support the users of the Tier-2 high performance computer, preparing necessary information and materials, and you will be responsible for the user operation (software maintenance / software installation)
You will publish your results in international / national journals, you will edit the publications in close cooperation with the University of Rostock
You participate in the supervision of bachelor and master theses

What you should bring with you:
You hold a completed university degree (Diploma (Uni)/Master) in mechanical, process or marine engineering, applied or technical mathematics as well as physics or a comparable field of study
Initial experience with numerical methods is desirable
Ideally, you already have knowledge of parallel data processing and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Knowledge of the programming languages C++ and Python is an advantage
Very good language skills (English / German), both written and spoken
In addition, we consider initiative, the ability to work in a team and creativity, as well as conceptual and strategic thinking to be very important.
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
